Locked-In Syndrome

A reference text on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and clinical evolution of an uncommon pathological picture – locked-in syndrome – usually consequent to a lesion of the basilar artery or evolution phase of the emergence of the state of unresponsive vigil. It is the result of work conducted by physicians, psychologists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, nurses and health care workers from the Neurorehabilitation Department of the Local Health Unit of Cuneo, identified by the Piedmont Region as “Expert Center for the Locked-in Syndrome”. Concretely, the text proposes the rehabilitation strategies under the nursing, physiotherapeutic, speech therapy and neuropsychological viewpoints on the basis of the best scientific evidence available in the literature.
