Prosthetic dentistry deals with the promotion of oral and dental health and it is an area in which particular attention is paid to conserving stomatognathic function and to restoring the function and aesthetics of the stomatognathic system through prostheses.
The book takes a general look at the embryogenesis, anatomy and physiology of the stomatognathic system, before considering in more depth the elements of occlusion and the instruments for the adjustment of intermaxillary relations. It then moves on to treatment planning – with very precise and accurate use of the prosthetic nomenclature – and to the preparation and application of the prosthetic support and the maintenance of the prosthetic restoration.
This book is a work of high didactic value; it is also extremely topical and up to date and richly illustrated. It is an integral part of the Dental Hygiene series and as such is aimed mainly at undergraduates attending dental hygiene courses for whom it is a valuable educational resource and source of clinical information. It is, however, a complete volume in itself, covering all aspects – theoretical and practical – of the discipline of prosthetic dentistry, from anatomical implications, to clinical procedures and the maintenance of the clinical result, making reference both to traditional techniques and to the most recently developed methods and materials. From this point of view, it
may also be useful to clinical dentists looking for a rapid update.
