Theodor Reik and the «third ear»

What?

Theodor Reik (1888-1969), pupil and friend of Freud, is one of the greats of contemporary psychoanalysis. His Listening with the Third Ear, never translated into Italian, is a legendary twentieth-century work. This study by Duccio Sacchi presents, once again, the key points of Reikian thought, which heralds the most modern therapeutic outlooks; at the same time it illustrates, through an emblematic historical example, the links between  the practice of psychoanalytical therapy and the teaching of psychoanalysis.

Why?

This is the first Italian book to analyse systematically the thought of one of the masters of  psychoanalysis, highlighting his importance both to clinical practice and, on a theoretical level, to the development of psychoanalytical thought. A very important work that fills a historical gap in the culture of psychoanalysis in Italy.

For whom?

This book is a fundamental text for anyone involved in psychoanalysis: therapists, students, and lecturers, both in universities and in all the different schools of psychoanalysis. The text is used by the  Faculty of Psychology and on the interfaculty course in the psychology of religion at the University of Turin.

Duccio Sacchi (1961), psychoanalyst belonging to the Société Internationale de Micropsychanalyse, lectures on  psychoanalytical listening at the University of Turin. Historian and clinical psychologist, he is a member of the Sándor Ferenczi Cultural Association, author of an important essay, Mappe dal Nuovo Mondo, and editor of many translations, including the Italian editions of a series of  key works: Psicoterapia psicoanalitica (H. Bleichmar), Madri e figlie (C. Eliacheff and N. Heinich) and Ultimo confine del mondo (L.E. Bridges).
